Oxford hosts summer Red Brick Friday event July 1

The City of Oxford hosts its second Red Brick Friday event of the summer in the streets of Uptown from 6 to 10 p.m. July 1 to begin a weekend of Independence Day festivities.

The theme of this Red Brick Friday is Red Light, Green Light – Public Safety. Oxford’s Police Department will toggle the stoplights for Red Light Green Light hopper ball races. Kids may receive a free bicycle helmet and fitting, and help decorate a police cruiser.

All of High Street from Beech Street to Campus Avenue will be closed to vehicle access so residents can walk on the red bricks. Local restaurants including Fiesta Charra will provide picnic tables and umbrellas for outdoor dining. Wild Berry and other participating businesses will set up shop outside storefronts.

Following the event, the Oxford Community Arts Center will host a Friday Night Lights free movie showing of “Zootopia” at its pavilion.
