Miami University Symphony Orchestra will honor the influential maestro Seiji Ozawa in a free concert at 7:30 on May 1 in Miami’s Hall Auditorium.
According to a press release, Maestro Ozawa’s profound influence on the orchestral landscape, particularly through his mentorship of Ricardo Averbach at the Tanglewood Music Festival, deeply resonates with the orchestra’s musicians.
A highlight of the evening will be the performance of Beethoven’s Egmont Overture, a piece cherished by Ozawa and significant as his final performance before his passing. The concert will also feature talents from Miami’s Department of Music, including Thea Bowne, Cole Kubesch and Eric Riedel, all winners of the Concerto Competition.
Additionally, compositions by Miami undergraduate student composers Max Liber, Gabe Manisco, and Oscar Ávila will have their world premiere, according to the press release.
