Rabbi Yossi Greenberg, leader of Chabad Center at Miami University, thanks the city council for recognizing Education and Sharing Day at the April 5 meeting.

Oxford has proclaimed Tuesday, April 12 as Education & Sharing Day in the city, calling upon “educators, volunteers, and citizens to reach out to young people and work to create a better, brighter, and more hopeful future for all.”

The proclamation, issued at the April 5 City Council meeting, celebrates the day first recognized in 1978 when Congress passed a joint resolution that was almost immediately signed into law by President Jimmy Carter. It is celebrated to honor  Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, who is one of the most prominent Jewish leaders of modern times, according to chabad.org.

Rabbi Yossi Greenberg, the leader of the Chabad Center at Miami University, attended the council meeting when the proclamation was read by Mayor Mike Snavely.

“We are very thankful to the Oxford community, who has been so welcoming to us, the Chabad and the Jewish community. We really appreciate it,” Greenberg said.
