Oxford Mayor Mike Smith honored the innovative and often difficult performance of the district’s teachers and staff during the COVID-19 pandemic by declaring Monday, May 10 through Friday, May 14 to be Talawanda School District Employee Appreciation Week.

Smith made the proclamation at the local Rotary and Kiwanis Clubs, during Tuesday’s city council meeting.

Rotary and Kiwanis members will deliver individual notes of appreciation to all 500+ teachers, administrators and support staff of the district during the coming week. The notes will include gift cards to the local Spring Street Treats soft serve shop.

The clubs will also present $200 donations to the Parent Teachers Group (PTG) of each of the five schools in the district.

“We intentionally chose to honor all support staff and administrators as well as teachers because we recognize that addressing needs associated with the pandemic has truly been a team effort,” Rotary President Dan Mawer said in a press release to announce the gifts.
