Oxford Girl Scout Troop #44706 raised $3,200 in donations and sponsorships to help the needy in and around the Oxford community this month.

The troop participated in a Turkey Trot Saturday, Nov. 14, hiking five miles through the Miami Trails system to raise money for the Talawanda Oxford Pantry and Social Services (TOPSS) food pantry. The money went for Thanksgiving meals to be given by the pantry to local families. The Girl Scouts bought 10 different types of side dishes and $20 Kroger gift cards to purchase turkeys for 30 families.

According to scouts volunteer Adrienne Yoches, the troop had enough money left over to contribute $2,100 to the St. Mary Church Giving Tree, which provides Christmas toys and other needs for local children.
