Between March 11 and 17, the Oxford Police Department responded to three instances of theft, two cases of driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol and a burglary.
On March 12 at 5:51 p.m. officers responded to Jimmy Johns uptown for a report of theft. The victim told police that her wallet was stolen after she mistakenly left it at the establishment.
Another theft was reported at the 600-block of S. College Ave. on March 14 at 2:36 p.m. The victim told officers that an unknown suspect entered their unlocked vehicle and stole their wallet.
The same day at 11 p.m., OPD responded to an apartment complex on College Corner Pike for a burglary in progress. Three males entered the residence and assaulted the victim, according to reports. One of the suspects was armed with a rifle. The victim fled the scene to escape. The area was checked and the suspects could not be found. This investigation is still ongoing.
On March 15 at 4:29 p.m., police responded to the same apartment complex for a report of theft of a package. Officers discovered that the package was delivered to the wrong address and was taken by an unknown suspect.
On March 16 at 12:28 a.m., officers responded to College Corner Pike for a report of an injury crash. Upon arrival, officers learned that the crash only involved one vehicle. The driver was found to be intoxicated and was charged with OVI.
Another case of driving under the influence was reported at South Locust and West Chestnut streets on March 17 at 1:05 a.m. The vehicle was observed traveling double the speed limit and failed to signal a turn. Officers investigated and found the suspect to be under the influence of alcohol, according to reports. Upon arrest, the suspect kicked an officer twice. He was transported to the Butler County Jail and was charged with speeding and turn signal violations, OVI and assault of a police officer.
OPD also responded to four cases of offenses involving underage persons under the influence of alcohol. Two of these violations occurred on East High Street, while the remaining two were reported on South Beech and South Main streets.
