Former Miami pitcher gets call to major leagues

Sam Bachman, a former Miami University baseball player, was called to the major leagues by the Los Angeles Angels Friday, May 26.

Bachman was Miami baseball’s first-ever first-round draft pick when he was picked ninth overall in the 2021 MLB draft by the Los Angeles Angels. He was Miami baseball’s highest-drafted student-athlete since Wally Szczerbiak’s 1999 NBA Draft.

In his career at Miami, Bachman went 12-7 with a 3.06 earned running average (ERA) and 199 strikeouts in 159 innings. In 2019, he was named Freshman All-American and the MAC Freshman Pitcher of the Year.
