Join historian Robert Thurston from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22 for a presentation titled “Rethinking Body Image in the Gilded Age: How Vigorous Debate and New Technology Affected Prevailing Perceptions on Gender, Race and Civilization” at the Oxford Lane Library.

The event—free and open to those ages 18 and up—will feature a discussion led by Thurston on “why we seem to live in a white man’s world.” He will focus on how Victorian men were confident about their future in this gilded age, what race and gender meant to them, and how advancing technologies changed their perspectives on human capabilities.
