Republican special primary election set for Aug. 2

Voters in Oxford will help choose the Republican nominee to represent District 47 in the Ohio House of Representatives in the special primary election Aug. 2.

The Republican ballot in Oxford will offer a choice between Sara Carruthers of Hamilton, who is currently serving her second term in the state legislature, and Cody Harper, a real estate agent from Hanover Township.

Early voting began on July 6 and ends Aug. 1. Voters can also request an absentee ballot from the Butler County Board of Elections website up to three days before the election (Saturday, July 30). Voters can visit the website to find out where to vote, as well as what their ballot will look like come election day.

The races for Ohio House and Senate seats were initially set to be held during the state’s usual May primary. However, they were postponed due to continued disagreements in Columbus over drafted state legislative district maps.

The winner of this special primary election will face Democrat Sam Lawrence, a Miami University student, in the November general election.
