Miami University has established a $1 million fund to support diversity, equity and inclusion efforts at the school, President Gregory Crawford announced.

The fund comes from a recommendation of the President’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Task Force. It will be used to develop university programs that advance Miami’s efforts to create a more welcoming, diverse and inclusive community. It is hoped efforts at the university will help create applications that work for society beyond the campus, according to the university’s announcement.

Miami announced the fund July 31. 

“We’re excited to see what types of ideas and projects come from our students, faculty, and staff that will have an impact not only here at Miami, but also places far beyond our little corner of Ohio,” Vicka Bell-Robinson, co-chair of the task force, said in a release.

The fund will be used for competitive grants to develop new programming and curricular reforms that can help increase recruitment and retention of a diverse university community, according to the university. The new fund will be added to a $250,000 gift from an anonymous donor and $25,000 from the Western College Alumnae Association to support Miami’s diversity and inclusive excellence programs, the university said.
