Senate Bill 1 was signed into law by Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine.
The bill was signed into law March 28, ignoring student protests across Ohio. A statement from Miami discusses the new required changes that must be made by all Ohio schools.
“As we navigate these changes to comply with the law, we will be guided by our core values of Love and Honor and our enduring commitment to providing a supportive community where all students, faculty, and staff can thrive…,” the release said. “More information about specific changes will be shared with impacted divisions later this semester as plans are finalized.”
The changes within the bill must take place within 90 days of DeWine’s signature. These changes include banning DEI programs, ending faculty strikes, prohibiting conversations about controversial topics in the classroom and making faculty post their syllabi publicly prior to the start of the semester.
