The Jacob Butze Memorial Foundation will have its annual 5K run at 11:30 a.m. Sunday Nov. 16, in Peffer Park, next to Miami University. Entry is $20.
The run honors the memory of Jacob Butze, a Miami student who died after a 21-month battle with Acute T-Cell Leukemia and Lymphoblastic Lymphoma.
Diagnosed during his freshman year, Jacob’s dedication and love for running were evident as he served as captain of his high school cross-country team and continued to run whenever he could. Jacob continued to flourish in other ways, too, making the Dean’s List during his freshman year at Miami while undergoing chemotherapy.
The Sunday run is hosted by Alpha Kappa Psi, Jacob’s business fraternity, where he was named 2020 Brother of the Year at its National Meeting. Proceeds from the 5K will go to the Jacob Butze Memorial Foundation, which provides scholarships for individuals affected by cancer.
