Miami University Field Hockey won its championship conference match against newly-added conference member James Madison University 3-0 Nov. 9, advancing to the NCAA tournament for the eighth consecutive year.
This year’s tournament featured more teams compared to previous years. Despite this, the Miami women’s team still dominated, winning its quarterfinal match Nov. 6 against Ohio University with a 6-1 score and its semifinal match Nov. 7 in a 3-2 overtime victory against Appalachian State.
Goals in the James Madison championship match were scored by Paula Peña Martinez, who netted a goal within the first two minutes of the game, as well as Carlie Servis and Negrete Garcia.
The Miami Redhawks (13-7) are set to face Vermont (11-8) in its first match of the NCAA tournament, hosted at Northwestern University’s Evanston campus, at 2 p.m. Nov. 13. Miami enters the tournament ranked No. 26 in the country, while Vermont holds the No. 39 ranking.
