The Miami University Recreation Sports Center, better known as “The Rec,” celebrates its 25th anniversary Monday, Sept. 16, with free community admission that day, as well as special discounts, promotions and giveaways.
The primary purpose of The Rec is to provide exercise and recreation space for Miami students, but the center has always offered opportunities and programs for the people of Oxford and surrounding communities as well.
Gymnastics lessons, kids camps, fitness workshops, family fun days, summer camps, birthday parties and, starting this year, one-day day camps for eight days when Talawanda schools are closed, all are part of The Rec’s mission.
“We also welcome visitors into the facility with single-day passes on any day,” said Elizabeth Keith, assistant director of customer and facility services. “And also we encourage all residents or visitors to Oxford to check out our website for more information.”
In addition to the gymnasium, basketball courts, an indoor track and a variety of exercise and fitness spaces, The Rec also includes a state-of-the-art aquatic center that has hosted national events in swimming, diving, water polo and synchronized swimming.
Meanwhile, for Monday’s celebration, The Rec will be offering discounts, such as $25 off any annual membership fees, group fitness fees, or functional fitness memberships. A $25 discount on any 10 or 20-session personal training package and 25% off any apparel item in the pro shop will also be offered.
“We will offer other promotions throughout the year, so we encourage members of the community to follow us on social media or check our websites for additional discounts and promotions,” Keith said.
