In cooperation with National Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Drug Take Back Day, Oxford Police are holding a drop-off event for unwanted, expired and unused medications 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 30 at the TRI Community Center, 6025 Fairfield Road.

Oxford Township Police will also participate in the event, accepting unwanted medications during the same hours at their station, 925 S. Main St.

Police will accept inhalers, liquids, syringes, pills and creams of both over-the-counter and prescription medications, according to a department press release. The event will be a drive-thru drop-off, so participants won’t have to leave their cars.

All medicines turned in will be disposed of in an environmentally friendly way to keep the substances out of the sewer system and prevent environmental contamination.

Police caution that keeping unneeded or expired medications around the house can pose a danger if they fall into the hands of children or others who could misuse or abuse them.
