Reconstruction of High Street between Patterson Avenue, looking east toward Campus Avenue will force traffic to detour around the area until Aug. 19.

Red Brick Fridays, during which High Street, from Beech Street to Campus Avenue, will be closed to vehicular traffic, return to Oxford beginning today, May 21, and recur on June 11, July 9, and Aug. 13.

On these days from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., participating businesses will set up sales tables on the sidewalks and the curbside parking spaces, while customers will be able to stroll through the area on uptown’s iconic red brick pavers.

Oxford’s Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA) went into effect on Thursday, May 20, meaning the strolling shoppers are able to get a drink in a special DORA cup from participating bars and restaurants and enjoy it while walking through the area.

The city is placing special compost bins in the area for disposing of the DORA cups. The cups are for single use only, so participants are asked to toss the cups in the compost bins when they finish each drink.
