Zeta Tau Alpha and Delta Chi came together to host a breast cancer awareness cookout, raising money for the Jimmy V. Foundation. They hosted the event at Uptown Park, 2 E High St, April 27. They had yard games like cornhole set up, they grilled food for people and they hosted a live band. Both philanthropies are cancer-related for the sorority and fraternity.
Libby O’Toole, Zeta’s philanthropy chair, said the event pays homage to all the Zetas who came before them at Miami and across the country. Sam Ruddy, Delta Chi’s philanthropy chair, said they have had a long-term relationship with Zeta and emphasized how important the event is for the community. Both said they’re also now raising some of their funds for Ryan Starrett, a Talawanda High School senior who died in the fire on Booth Road Tuesday, April 22. They ended up raising around $1,000, according to O’Toole.
