The Talawanda Brave Softball team had a good start to its season.
To begin Southwest Ohio Conference (SWOC) play, the Brave are 3-0 with wins over Harrison and Northwest.
Over the weekend Talawanda dropped both games in a doubleheader against the Franklin Wildcats in a non-conference series on Saturday April 11.
In game one, the Brave were defeated 4-6.
Talawanda took a two run lead in the third inning, but Franklin answered back by scoring one run in the fourth, followed by five in the fifth. The Brave nearly came back by scoring a pair of runs in the fifth and sixth innings, but their comeback bid fell just short.
Senior Kylie Cobb pitched a complete game for the Brave and struck out four Wildcats. She also went 2-4 with three RBIs and a triple in game one.
Game two was another close contest, but Talawanda fell to Franklin 6-9.
The Brave had a lead in the fifth by putting up four runs to take a 6-5 lead over the Wildcats. In the sixth and seventh innings, the Wildcats scored four unanswered runs to seal the victory.
Sophomore at Talawanda Quinn Frieden pitched 6.1 innings while striking out six in the circle. Juniors Audrey Hilbert, Grace Richardson and Frieden each had two RBIs in the loss.
Talawanda looks to rebound in its next SWOC contest against the Harrison Wildcats.
