The arena planning committee made a recommendation to Miami University President Gregory Crawford to build the new multipurpose sports arena on Cook Field, as well as relocate the current recreational fields to the current location of Millett Hall.
According to a Miami press release, the Cook field site was chosen over the south quad site because it allowed for construction without removal of existing buildings, allowed for more space to construct other buildings and it would be closer to on-campus housing to accommodate student events.
The Cook Field location is on the corner of East High Street and South Patterson Street. It is located next to the Farmer School of Business, Bachelor Hall and Shideler Hall. This location is also proposed to include a new hotel and restaurant.
According to the press release, more than 1,500 people took the survey conducted for community opinion which the committee took under consideration for the location.
The committee is also using information from the Physical Facilities Department Office of Planning, Architecture and Engineering.
President Crawford will take this recommendation to the Board of Trustees at the next meeting Feb. 27 and 28.
