The Oxford Police Department reported a rash of attempted break-ins of Kia and Hyundai vehicles. The thieves are breaking windows of locked cars and damaging steering columns.
The first theft report on a 2016 Kia Soul was at 11 a.m. Nov. 7 by a resident of Miami Commons. The vehicle was entered into with the steering column peeled in an apparent attempt to steal said vehicle.
Two other vehicles were then also discovered with the same damage later in the weekend, a 2011 Kia Forte and a Honda by Brown Road.
Additionally, a 2016 Kia Soul had a window shattered and the steering column peeled on S. College Avenue and a 2017 Hyundai Elantra had a window shattered and steering column peeled in The Preserve neighborhood.
Other cases at the Oxford Police this week included the use of social media to help a hardware store identify a $1,000 theft suspect, leading to theft charges being filed.
Police also arrested a 20-year-old male for disorderly conduct and underage intoxication after he threatened a restaurant employee over the weekend.
