Oxford City Council approved four resolutions and two ordinances at the biweekly city council meeting Oct. 15.
Council authorized Oxford city staff to enter into an agreement with Playground Equipment Services, whom it determined to be the best bidder on the project. The playground, located in Merry Day Park off College Corner Pike, will not exceed $100,500 in building costs.
The new dog park, located on Bonham Road, will be known as the Barkham Park, as voted on by council members. The park is on track to be completed by the end of October and will include amenities such as a drinking fountain and park benches.
The 23 tobacco retailers in Oxford will see tighter restrictions starting next year, as council members unanimously approved the passing of an ordinance regarding license restrictions. The ultimate goal of the ordinance is to prevent the sale of tobacco to those under 21 years of age, according to Sam Perry, Oxford’s community development director.
Council members also approved the ordinance that will make supplemental appropriations for the fiscal year 2024 budget.
