The Talawanda baseball team defeated conference rival Harrison 6-2 on April 29 to capture its second Southwest Ohio Conference regular season title in three years.
The Brave boasted a balanced hitting and pitching attack at home against the Wildcats.
On the mound, junior Micah Davis kept his pitch count low, while collecting four strike-outs.
“Coming into today, my mindset was because they’ve seen me before they might get a few hits but I gotta switch it up and throw smart,” Davis said.
The Brave offense kicked into gear in the second inning when junior Nathanial Iden’s triple brought senior A.J Hainline home, the first of four runs in the inning. Senior Tyler Robinson led the attack with three hits and two RBI’s.
Talawanda sits atop the conference statistically in a number of team offensive categories, including runs, hits, doubles, triples, RBIs and stolen bases.
“I can’t say enough about Davis and Tanner up on the mound getting the job done today,” head coach Matt Lykins said. “A big decision today was getting Iden back at bat after an elbow injury against Ross then leading off an incredible inning with a triple that really set the team in motion.”
Talawanda has struggled during the season with errors but managed to complete the game against Harrison error-free. The infield was strong in supporting Davis’ pitching with short-stop Eddie Tanner collecting six assists and first-baseman Adam Achterman collecting 14 put-outs.
“Defense played great, offense played great, the dugout had great energy, overall the positive energy was through the roof,” Davis said. “Everything just came together to take this win.”
The Brave (12-8, 8-1 SWOC) travel to LaSalle High School on May 2 to take on the Lancers at 5 p.m.
