The Easter Bunny is scheduled to drop more than 15,000 eggs in city parks on March 28-30 for three free egg hunts sponsored by Oxford Parks and the Recreation Department, including one for adults and another that will be held in the dark.
“It’s something unique and different than surrounding communities offer,” said Emily Sollenberger, recreation supervisor at OPRD. “Why not let the adults have fun too?”
The prizes at the adult egg hunt, 7 p.m March 28 at the Oxford Community Park basketball courts, include donations from LaRosa’s, Hanover Winery, Hueston Woods and Oxford Chamber of Commerce Wine and Craft Beer Festival. The eggs contain raffle tickets, which participants can use for a chance to win the prizes they want.
Self-described “older woman” Victoria Albaugh said she attended the adult egg hunt the past two years, last year with friends from the senior center. She warned that “kids under 18” and “the 20 somethings” will “run over top of everyone.”
“If you set all that aside and just watch people it’s funny,” she said in a Facebook message. “They are trying really hard to include adults.”
Police Chief John Jones said in an email that the adult egg hunt will not be staffed with OPD officers and that there have been no incidents at the event in the past.
The night egg hunt, for children grades four to eight, will be 9:30 p.m. March 28 in the dark baseball outfield at the TRI, 6025 Fairfield Road. Children are asked to bring flashlights. The prize table at this hunt includes items such as gaming headphones, wireless earbuds, and Miami basketball athletic gear.
According to Sollenberger, the “largest egg scramble,” will be 11 a.m. March 30 at the Oxford Community Park for children third grade and younger. Prizes will include stuffed animals, outdoor games, and candy and the Easter bunny will make an appearance.
