A film crew that has been filming around a prop plane crash in Hueston Woods State Park will be shooting in Uptown Oxford beginning this weekend and continuing through March 2. The film, “Alarum,” will star Sylvester Stallone.
Filming on Feb. 24 will occur near the corner of Walnut and South Beech Street in the afternoon and evening, according to the City of Oxford’s website.
On Feb. 27 and 28, filming from noon to 1 a.m. will occur in front of O’Pub. East and West Park Place will be posted NO PARKING for the duration of filming, as well as parts of Main and Church streets. During this time, Left Field Tavern will use an alternate entrance from the alley off Church Street.
The entrance to O’Pub will be at “the center of the action,” and delays are expected getting in and out of the bar, as well as entrances of Fey Insurance, Blue Mango and the Tattoo Parlor, according to the press release. The LCNB drive-thru will not be affected. However, the bank may have short delays to get into its lobby.
Filming on March 1 and 2 will occur at the Lee & Rosemary Innovation College on Elm Street, but filming will mainly occur in the interior.
Production is working closely with local law enforcement and the Oxford Police Department to ensure safety of the community and crew, as well as keeping delays to a minimum, the city said. Areas covered by the filming permits will be closed but there will be areas where filming is safe to watch.
Earlier this week, the weather was 50 degrees and sunny in Hueston Woods State Park, where camera crews with large trucks and smoke machines filmed scenes near the park’s lodge.
Earlier this month, park guests riding horses on the trails stumbled upon a staged plane crash in the woods of the park and speculated if it was placed for a film.
Park manager Kathryn Connor said the plane crash found by trail-goers were props placed for an “approved special parks activity permit.”
She said that the use of props was covered under the crew’s “special park activity” permit. This permit has a processing fee of $40 and is available to anyone wishing to utilize the park and its campgrounds, she said.
She said that under the permit, the activities of permit-holders are private.
As far as the staged plane goes, Connor says it has since been removed from the horse trail, as filming has wrapped at that location.
The synopsis of the film is as follows from the City of Oxford website:
“After the CIA discovers the whereabouts of two rogue spies, who have not only gone off-grid but have become husband and wife, all hell is unleashed on their winter honeymoon cabin resort in the woods by a consortium of international spy organizations who are after a ‘flight pill’ aka a hard drive, and all whom suspect the two may have joined a worldwide network of rogue spies known as Alarum.”
