The Butler County General Health District inspected 64 Oxford restaurants between Dec. 7, and Feb. 12, issuing 30 critical violations and 153 non-critical violations to 44 businesses.
The inspector issued violations as follows:
United Dairy Farmers, 101 W High St., received a repeat critical violation Feb. 8 for storing cheese at improper temperatures along with four maintenance and cleaning-related non-critical violations.
At Starbucks, 19 E High St., dead insects were found in lights of a cooler and plates were stacked without drying, resulting in two non-critical violations.
Dairy Queen, 5046 College Corner Pike, had two critical and three non-critical violations on Feb. 6. Both criticals involved hand-washing and were corrected at inspection. Non-criticals were for equipment care and propping the back door open.
BT Chicken, 15 S Beech St., got a critical violation Feb. 6 for keeping a lighter on food prep surfaces, and six non-critical violations related to cleaning and storage.
Aqua Tea, 33 W High St., received one critical violation Feb. 5 for not dating perishable food correctly. They also had six non-critical violations for cleanliness and equipment repair.
CJ’s, 25 E High St., got three non-critical violations for cleanliness and repair of floors and walls.
King Library Cafe, 151 S Campus Ave., received one non-critical violation for a broken door gasket on a cooler on Feb. 1.
Martin Dining Commons, 5397 Bonham Rd., were keeping carrots too hot and other foods too cold on Feb. 1 which resulted in two critical violations. Equipment problems tacked on a non-critical violation.
Miami University’s Clinical Health Sciences Cafe, 421 S Campus Ave., received two non-critical violations for not having a certified manager and washing produce improperly.
Hole In The Wall Bar, 13 W High St., was given a non-critical violation for mislabeled food containers Jan. 31.
Greystone Store at Miami, 480 Western College Dr., had ice buildup on its freezer door Jan. 30 resulting in a non-critical violation.
Maplestreet Station, 571 Maple St., had two critical violations Jan. 30 for damaged cans and improperly stored eggs, and three non-critical for a faulty dishwasher, cracked pans and an improperly sealed sink.
Market Street at MacCracken, 500 Center Dr., had three non-critical violations Jan. 30 for utensils stored incorrectly and a damaged door gasket on the walk-in cooler.
Western Dining Commons, 480 Western College Dr., got four non-critical violations Jan. 30 for not having towels at sinks, propping the back door open, having a poorly sealed sink and not cleaning often enough.
Armstrong Student Center, Main, 550 E. Spring St., was inspected on Jan. 25 and received one critical violation and five non-critical. The critical violation was for having cleaning solution that wasn’t diluted enough. This violation was corrected during the inspection. The non-critical violations were all for code violations related to nonfood-contact surfaces.
Oxford Mini Mart, 1459 Oxford Trenton Rd., was inspected on Jan. 22 and received three non-critical violations. One violation was a repeat, and it was for water stains on the ceiling above coolers and broken floor tiles near the front endurance. The other two were for waste receptacles not being covered properly and the beer cooler door having a damaged gasket.
Quesadilla Express, 5174 College Corner Pike, was inspected on Jan. 22 and received three critical violations and eight non-critical. The first of the critical violations were due to both of the facility’s hand sinks being inaccessible for proper hand washing. The others were because the inspector didn’t observe an employee health policy on file and because the person in charge was unable to demonstrate knowledge by having no critical violations. Non-critical violations ranged from no soap being available at handwashing stations, “an abundance of dead pests” in light covers and having no employee with manager certification in food protection present.
Armstrong Student Center, Catering Kitchen, 550 Spring St., was inspected on Jan. 18 and received zero critical violations and one non-critical violation. The violation was for non-food contact surfaces of equipment being unclean.
Comfort Inn, 5056 College Corner Pike, was inspected on Jan. 18, and received four critical and seven non-critical violations. Three of the critical violations were repeat offenses. The critical violations were for toxic chemicals antibacterial spray and air freshener being stored directly on the kitchen prep counter (two times), temperature controlled for safety foods not being stored at proper temperatures, and the person in charge not being able to demonstrate knowledge by having no critical violations. Non critical violations ranged from not having means for employees to dry their hands at handwashing sinks, having several pieces of residential cooking equipment and the facility not having a manager with a certification in food protection.
Dividends, Miami University, 800 E High St., was inspected on Jan. 18 and was found to have zero critical and two non-critical violations. The violations were for prep coolers with damaged door gaskets and dust build up on the ceiling and the wall above the kitchen’s clean dish rack.
Garden Commons, Miami University, 95 N. Patterson Dr., was inspected on Jan. 18 and was found to have zero critical violations and four non-critical violations. The violations were for small cracks on the granite countertop in the pizza section of the dining hall, faulty door gaskets on prep coolers, a hand sink being broken and a black mold-like substance on the wall behind the spray hose in the dishwashing room.
Miami University Catering, 701 E Spring St., was inspected on Jan. 18 and received zero critical violations and two non-critical violations. The violations were for door gaskets on several prep coolers being visibly dirty and for damaged floor tile in various places in the production kitchen.
Patterson’s Cafe, 103 W Spring St., was inspected on Jan. 18 and received two critical and six non-critical violations. The critical violations were for the handwashing sink being used for purposes other than hand washing and because the bar soda gun in Cru Lounge had a build up of grime on the food-contact portions of the nozzle. Non-critical violations ranged from no soap at the bar hand sink in Patterson’s, damaged equipment and unclean non-food contact surfaces.
Bell Tower Dining Commons, 401 E High St., was inspected on Jan. 11 and received zero critical and four non-critical violations. The non-critical violations were for broken equipment and unclean non-food contact surfaces.
Starbucks Coffee in Withrow Hall, 201 Talawanda Rd., was inspected on Jan. 11 and received zero critical and three non-critical violations. The violations were because the inspector observed caulking beginning to separate between a sink and the wall, coffee grounds and grime build up on door gaskets of prep coolers in the facility and a dripping water pipe.
Skyline Chili, located at 1 E High St., was inspected on Jan. 4. The restaurant received two non-critical violations. One violation was for non-food contact surfaces not being easily cleanable, while the other was for not repairing the physical facilities properly.
Rapid Fire Pizza, located at 7 W High St., received a standard inspection on Jan. 4. The restaurant received six non-critical violations. Two of them were repeat violations. Most of the violations were due to cleanliness and equipment installations.
The Walmart at 5720 College Corner Pike, received one critical and two non-critical violations on Jan. 5. The violation said a particular food machine needed repair to be easily cleanable. One non-critical violation involved removing dead pests or insects, while the other violation was for cleanliness.
Tous Les Jours Bakery-Cafe at 5 W High St., received no violations for their consultation inspection on Dec. 8. However, on Feb. 5 they received two critical and four non-critical violations. The critical violations said foods were not being hot held at the right temperature and the other one was for poisonous or toxic materials. The non-critical violations involved storage issues and manager certification.
Subway, located at 5720 College Corner Pike, received two critical violations and four non-critical violations. The critical violations said foods were not held at the proper temperature, while the non-critical violations involved lighting, equipment and handwashing sink issues.
Jimmy Johns at 23 E High St. was inspected Jan. 5 and received 11 non-critical violations. Four of the violations were repeat violations. The violations said the store needed repair and cleaning.
Circle K, on the corner of College and High Streets, received five non-critical violations on Jan. 5. Two of them were repeat violations. The violations said the store needed repairing, cleaning and removal of dead pests or insects.
KDS Express at 4985 College Corner Pike was inspected on Jan. 8 and received three non-critical violations. One was a repeat violation, while the other two involved cleaning and floor and wall sealing issues.
The Dunkin’ Donuts at 431 S Locust St. was also inspected on Jan. 8 and received one critical and five non-critical violations. The critical violation said the hand washing sink was not accessible. Two of the non-critical violations were repeat violations. The non-critical violations involved equipment and repair issues.
Starbucks Coffee inside Shriver Center, located at 701 E Spring St., was inspected on Jan. 9 and received one non-critical violation. The violation said cleanliness was an issue.
Fridge & Pantry Uptown Market and Gobbler’s Chicken both received follow-up facility inspections from the Butler County General Health District (BCGHD) on Dec. 19 following a standard complaint critical control point inspection and a standard 30-day inspection, respectively.
Fridge & Pantry, 35 E Church St., originally received six critical and nine non-critical violations on Dec. 6. Nearly two weeks later the establishment was down to one critical violation, but still nine non-critical. The critical repeat violation regarded a non-accessible handwashing sink due to a plumbing issue.
Gobbler, 327 Spring St., received seven critical and seven non-critical violations on Dec. 18 during the original inspection. The following day, the restaurant was down to four non-critical violations.
Oxford Seniors received three standard inspections the week of Dec. 11. The nonprofit, located at 922 Tollgate Dr., was given the most violations on Dec. 14 with two critical and three non-critical. The critical violations regarded an unauthorized person in the kitchen to reheat coffee and a handwashing sink being used to dump iced drinks, both of which were corrected during the inspection.
On Dec. 7, Yum Cha, 411 Locust St., received four repeat non-critical violations during a follow-up inspection. The facility was observed to not have a manager certification for food protection, to have damaged door gaskets, to not have available chlorine test strips and cracked floor tiles.
Kroger, 300 S Locust St., was given five critical and five non-critical violations on Dec. 8. All five critical violations were corrected during inspection. The critical violations included a lack of an employee health policy, compromised cans on shelves, egg shells found on cottage cheese containers, no hand sanitizer in the Starbucks area and a sanitizer spray bottle pointed at fried chicken breading.
Brick Street, 36 E High St., received five non-critical violations on Dec. 13. Violations were given due to the use of unapproved pesticide use – which was corrected during inspection – a presence of dead pests in light covers, an absence of a sanitizer test kit, a slow leak on a second floor sink and grime build up behind the bar areas. On Dec. 11, Schneider Electric’s Market C, 5735 College Corner Road, also received a violation for pests found in light covers.
Penn Station, 3612 Southpointe Parkway, was inspected on Dec. 15 for its standard 30-day inspection and received only two non-critical violations for improperly labeled salt containers and a lack of employee designated space for their own food and drink.
Circle Towne Tavern and Steinkeller, 15 E High St. 1st Floor and Basement, were given five non-critical violations including repeats of equipment out of tact, uncleanly non-food contact surfaces on Dec. 21.
Mac & Joe’s, 21 E High St., received three non-critical violations, also on Dec. 21, for repeat violations of a freezer unit with damaged door gaskets and cracked floor tiles, and a violation for build of grime and debris on the fryer station.
