On Nov. 11, a passerby reported to police a possible swastika drawn on an exterior wall in an alley next to Jimmy John’s. Police said they do not believe the hand-sized symbol is a swastika, but rather the numeral 4. Employees are working on removing the graffiti.
“There’s no hate crime,” OPD Lt. Lara Fening said. “It was a perceived symbol that was on a building for an unknown period of time.”
Between Nov. 6 and Nov. 12, Oxford Police responded to multiple calls to Walmart and Brick Street Bar.
On Nov. 6, a woman reported a sexual assault to officers at the police station. Police identified a suspect and the investigation is ongoing.
On Nov. 7, unknown suspects wrote four checks totaling $96,501.54 using someone else’s bank account and routing information.
Later that day, a man stole a child’s bike while the child was inside Walmart.
On Nov. 8, a woman reported she was groped by her coworker while working at Arby’s just after 1 p.m. The victim did not want to press charges, reporting the incident to police for documentation.
The same day, officers responded to someone threatening to harm themselves on McGuffey Avenue. The person was transported for a 72-hour psychiatric hold.
In the evening of Nov. 8, police were called to Walmart as two employees were fired after an internal investigation that management said indicated they had been stealing from the store for months, according to the police report. The employees had been observed through security cameras and purchase records switching price tags, according to police reports.
On Nov. 10, just after 11 p.m. an underage female was taken from Brick Street Bar to McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital for alcohol-related medical assistance. She was issued citations for alcohol-related violations.
Just after 1 a.m. on Nov. 12, a male was transported by police from Brick Street Bar to McCullough-Hyde for intoxication. He has vomited on himself multiple times according to police and cited for disorderly conduct.
In the early morning hours of Nov. 12, officers discovered a running vehicle at Oxford Lane Library with the driver passed out in the driver’s seat. The driver was taken into custody for operating a vehicle while impaired and obstruction.
At 5:46 a.m. on Nov. 12, a male was assaulted by a group of other males by Bagel and Deli. The assailants fled the scene before police arrived. The victim was transported to McCullough-Hyde for his injuries.
