In the Nov. 7 race for Oxford Township Trustee, incumbent Kate Rousmaniere beat challenger Glenn Ellerbe by a margin of nearly three-to-one, according to the Butler County Board of Elections.
“I expected the result because my opponent was an incumbent with the backing of the Butler County Progressive PAC,” Ellerbe said. “When a candidate is endorsed by the Butler County Progressive PAC in Oxford, they’re effectively guaranteed 2,000 votes.”
According to the unofficial election night tally from the county board of elections, Rousmaniere won 2,678 votes, while Ellerbe won 899.
“I’m excited for four more years,” Rousmaniere said. “We passed our electrical aggregation, which means we can start developing options for our residents.”
Oxford Township’s current fiscal officer is Susan Rooney, whose term ends in March. According to Rousmaniere, Rooney chose not to run again because she thought the job was difficult and she wanted to retire.
“No candidate filed to run in that race [fiscal officer] so what will happen when the new trustees take office in January, that will create a vacancy that the new trustees will be able to fill,” said a Butler County Board of Elections official.
Rousmaniere said that Rooney was hired after the previous fiscal officer retired.
“At any point when the new trustees take office January 1st, they can go through a process of soliciting offices to appoint on April 1st,” said a Butler County Board of Elections official.
Rousmaniere said she and her fellow trustees will begin the hiring process for fiscal officer in January to replace Rooney.
