The Oxford Community Arts Center will once again host the soup luncheon benefit Empty Bowls on Nov. 11.
For the event, the local artists and Talawanda School District and Miami University ceramics students created and donated an array of bowls. When guests arrive, they fill up one of the decorated bowls, which they get to take home, with their soup of choice made by local cooks. Homemade bread and desserts, and beverages donated by local businesses will also be served.
Empty Bowls was created in 1990 by a Michigan art teacher looking for a more creative way for his students to support the local food drive. The event grew and is now hosted in over 20 countries, raising millions of dollars worldwide. Oxford’s event has raised over $139,000 to alleviate hunger.
The luncheon is 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Oxford Community Arts Center. Admission costs $15 and children eat for free (bowl not included).
