Audubon Miami Valley Volunteer Day at the Hueston Woods State Nature Preserve will focus on protecting the woodland area from invasive plants. Volunteers will gather from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Oct. 28 at the Maple Grove picnic area to remove these invasive species.
The area of the preserve where volunteers will be working is designated as a local important bird area. The AMV said in a press release that these wooded areas are especially important because they contain remnants of the beech-maple forests that used to cover much of Ohio.
The AMV recommends wearing long pants and athletic shoes. Gloves and tools will be provided for volunteers to hand-pull and dig up invasive plants. The AMV encourages volunteers to register with Gail Reynolds ([email protected]). Pizza will also be provided to volunteers.
