The Talawanda School District moved from the 318th-ranked to the 326th-ranked public district in the state, as measured by student proficiency test scores, according to the performance index of school districts released by the Ohio Department of Education Sept. 14.
Talawanda remained fourth among 10 public school districts in Butler County, according to state’s performance index rankings, which were generated by the department of education in response to a state mandate to rank districts and schools based on students’ performance on state tests.
On the Department of Education’s performance index, which takes all scores into consideration, all but one district school–Marshall Elementary–moved lower in state-wide rankings. On the performance index:
- Talawanda High School ranked 221 out of 784 public high schools in the state, down from 212 out of 823 last year.
- Talawanda Middle School ranked 328 out of 532 public middle schools in the state, down from 294 out of 531 last year.
- Kramer Elementary School ranked 659 out of 1638 public elementary schools in the state, down from 653 out of 1647 last year.
- Bogan Elementary School ranked 956 out of 1638 public elementary schools in the state, down from 778 out of 1647 last year.
- Marshall Elementary school ranked 799 out of 1638 public elementary schools in the state, up from 849 out of 1647 last year.
The department also released an achievement index for all schools in the state. According to the Department of Education website, the achievement index only includes the scores of students who passed the required standardized tests (on the other hand, the performance index takes all standardized test scores into account, not just for those students who passed).
According to the achievement index data from the Ohio Department of Education, Talawanda received a rating of 4 out of 5 stars. According to the report, out of the 607 public schools in Ohio, seven received a one star rating, 71 received two stars, 208 received three stars, 226 received four stars and 95 received five.
