Miami orchestra concert features 2023 Concerto Competition winners

The Miami University Symphony Orchestra will have its final concert of the season at 7:30 p.m.  May 5 in Hall Auditorium. The concert will be free and open to the public.

The concert will feature the winners of the 2023 Concerto Competition:

  Matt Silva de Souza, a graduate student from Brazil, performing Mozart’s 2nd Horn Concerto

  Franklin Sandoval, a graduate student, performing Schumann’s Cello Concerto

  Alec Reder, an undergraduate student, performing the Fantasia for Alto Saxophone by Claude T. Smith

The orchestra, conducted by Ricardo Averbach, will also debut sophomore, Flute Performance and Music Composition double major, Ezra Simmons’ piece “Daydreams.” 

The piece won the Miami University Composition Competition held to celebrate the orchestra’s 120th year.
