John Hopkins President to discuss universities’ role in democracy

Ronald J. Daniels, president of the John Hopkins University and author of “What Universities Owe Democracy,” will hold a Zoom lecture for Miami University at 6:30 p.m. April 24.

Daniels will discuss the role that universities play in maintaining democratic societies when democracies around the globe are under threat.

According to a press release, since first becoming president of John Hopkins University in 2009, Daniels has encouraged democratic values and civic education on campus. Including the introduction of Democracy Day, a university Debate Initiative to promote campus debates and the development of Hopkins Votes, a voter outreach initiative.
