Whether or not it is time to end the death penalty will be the subject of the Janus Forum’s 2023 spring lecture Mar. 1 in the Armstrong Student Center Wilks Theater. The event will feature two guest speakers, Rep. Jason Chaffetz, and Laura Nirider. The event is free and open to the public. The reception following the lectures is intended to provide space for the community to come together and discuss their opposing viewpoints.

Jason Chaffetz was a Member of Congress (R-UT) from 2009-2017 and the former chairman of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee, as well as a Fox News contributor and author of the New York Times bestseller “Power Grab: The Liberal Scheme to Undermine Trump”.

Laura Nirider is a clinical professor of law and co-director of the Center on Wrongful Convictions at Northwestern Pritzker School of Law in Chicago. She represents individuals who were wrongfully convicted of crimes in their youth (her clients have included Brendan Dassey (Netflix series “Making a Murderer”) and Damien Echols of the West Memphis Three (Documentary “West of Memphis.”)
