Penguin Random House published Daniel Prior’s translation of an ancient Central Asian epic, “The Memorial Feast for Kökötöy Khan.” Prior is an associate professor of history at Miami University.

According to the publisher, the tale gives the reader access to the world of horse-based nomad cultures. This epic was written in the early twentieth century, but it draws on much older sources.

According to the publisher, this edition is the first translation of the complete text of the poem from Kirghiz into another language. The edition includes commentaries, maps, illustrations and a comprehensive index of names.
