Chicago-based singer-songwriter Joe Goodkin will present his one-man folk-opera interpretation of Homer’s Iliad from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17 in Harrison Hall room 111.

Goodkin released “The Blues of Achilles,” a 17-song reimagining of the Iliad, in 2022. He has performed his interpretation of Homer’s Odyssey in 43 U.S. states, Canada, Greece, Italy and the Netherlands.

The new work evokes “the truths that the Iliad conveys [through] songs that [are] real and now,” according to classics professor Tom Palaima of The University of Texas at Austin.
