Miami professor emeritus leads sacred walking tour

Miami University’s Department of Comparative Religion will host “A Walking Tour of Sacred Sites of Oxford: Traditional and Modern” from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22.

Peter Williams, professor of comparative religion emeritus, and Curtis Ellison, professor of history emeritus, will lead the tour and explore the concept of “sacred.”

The tour reviews the impact places in Oxford like the Presbyterian Church, Bagel & Deli, Armstrong Student Center, and the campus seal have on town residents and Miami faculty.

The walk will begin at the Phi Delta Theta Gates, 1 S. Campus Ave., and continue on campus to visit spots including the Sesquicentennial Chapel and Upham Arch. The tour will end at Old Manse, once home to Miami’s Comparative Religion Department.

This is a kick-off for a series of events leading to the Department’s centennial celebration in 2027. RSVP to Shelley Pieklik, [email protected].
