Miami education professor tackles stereotypes in education in new book

Miami University Department of Teacher Education instructor Nathaniel Bryan explores the consequences of systemic issues facing Black boys in the classroom in his recently authored book, titled “Toward a BlackBoyCrit Pedagogy: Black Boys, Male Teachers, and Early Childhood Classroom Practices.”

Bryan, an assistant professor of early childhood education, addresses the impact of socially constructed stereotypes and perceptions in the classroom and highlights the importance of educators who challenge such practices in his book, published by Routledge in early November 2021.

An author of several academic journal publications, Bryan concentrates on scholarship concerning equity and diversity, critical race theory, culturally relevant teaching, urban education, and Black pedagogy.
