After opening Feb. 17, the Miami University Opera Theater will continue performances of the classic opera, “The Light in the Piazza,” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18 and Saturday, Feb. 19, at Gates-Abegglen Theater, in Miami’s Center for Performing Arts, 420 S. Patterson Ave. 

Based on the 1960 novella by Elizabeth Spencer, the Tony Award-winning musical blends classical opera and contemporary theater to tell a story of family and romance in 1950s Italy.

Directed by Assistant Professor of Voice Benjamin Smolder, Miami University Opera Theater brings undergraduate and graduate students together to both perform and assist with all facets of professional theater production.

Tickets are available through Miami’s event website and are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and $10 for students.
