Red Door Community Concert series continues with jazz trio

The Tammy Kernodle Jazz Trio will perform from 12:15 p.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17  for the Red Door Community Concert Series at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. The concert is the second of six, but is the first to take place in person.

The Holy Trinity Episcopal Church organized the concerts to help promote community and ease anxiety during the pandemic.

“I think in this time of the continuing pandemic, racial strife and political division, the Red Door Community Concerts are an example of one way Holy Trinity Episcopal Church is promoting unity,” said Sarah Michael, Holy Trinity Arts Committee chair, in the press release.

Tammy Kernodle is a distinguished professor of music at Miami University. The concert will feature “Freedom Sounds: Songs of Resistance, Hope and Transcendence.”

“She will explore how Black music, represented in various forms, has served as an incubator of narratives of hope, resistance and perseverance that mark the long struggle for equality,” according to the press release.

The event is free and open to the public and will also be available on YouTube.
