As Election season approaches, political yard signs spring up like blooming flowers, with many different colors and candidates.
Oxford residents make their voices heard using yard signs, which can be requested both from your party’s local section or the candidate itself. Both the Butler County GOP and Butler County Democrats have a way to request yard signs online.
These signs are an important way to show your beliefs. Joanne Harper who lives on South Locust Street has been using them to show her support for years.
“They are [important] to me,” Harper said. Harper’s yard displays a yes on Issue 1 sign, a Vanessa Cummings sign, and a “Veterans for Harris” sign. Harper’s husband is a veteran.
Butler County GOP didn’t reply to OO’s interview requests.
Kathy Wyenandt, chair of the Butler County Dems, said they start promoting November election signs in July.
“We’ve been working to establish a yard sign operation in Butler County,” Wyenandt said.
The Democrats hand out signs for local candidates and issues as well as big-ticket items like senate and presidency, with a sign-up sheet on its website for signs.
The Butler County GOP does not have a similar sheet, but Republican signs, especially ones supporting former President Trump and Senator Vance, can be seen in all different styles in the country surrounding the town. Most signs in town are Democratic.
For the homes who have Trump signs, none of the residents could be reached for comment.
With all the politicization of this election reports nationally of vandalization in some areas of the country, but Oxford Police reported no issues locally
