The Talawanda Girls Varsity Tennis team secured a dominant sweep at the SWOC tournament on Thursday, Sept. 26, winning all of its matches to claim the championship.
The team, with an overall record of 12-7 as of Sept. 30, played against Harrison and Northwest in the annual SWOC tournament totaling 20 points from first, second and third singles, along with first and second doubles. Each player had two matches, and Talawanda swept the entire tournament to win the title.
Despite playing outside, the tournament wrapped up just before the leftover remnants of Hurricane Helene hit.
“The people that were supposed to win did. I knew there would be two tough matches, and in both of those matches it went to three sets, but we prevailed in the third set,” said Coach Nate Silberstein. “That was third singles and second doubles, and I knew they were in for a tough day, and they took care of business.”
Both of the challenging matches were against Harrison.
The girls wrapped up their season this week on Oct. 2nd at sectionals.
