Winter sports seasons are winding down, and pressure is ratcheting up as the postseason rolls around.
According to results posted by the Southwest Ohio Conference, Talawanda varsity boys basketball dropped a game on Feb. 10 at Reading High School 58-68. Junior guard Cale Leitch paced the team with 29 points in the game, and senior guard Bryce James was close on his tail with 22 points. Talawanda shot over 40% from the three point line but lost the rebound battle 45-25 in the loss. In its most recent game, Talawanda couldn’t grab a win on the road against Badin High School on Feb. 13, losing 68-31 in its final regular season game.
Talawanda is scheduled to play Archbishop Moeller in a postseason game on Feb. 22. Talawanda finished the regular season with a 2-19 record, while Moeller finished 20-1 on the regular season and is ranked No. 1 in Ohio by the Associated Press state high school basketball poll.
Talawanda varsity girls basketball dropped its most recent game, 16-67 against Goshen High School on Feb. 10. On Feb. 12, the women were slated to square off against Withrow High School, but Withrow forfeited. The team moves on to play Lakota East on Feb. 22 at 5:30 p.m. at Middletown.
Talawanda swim and dive participated in the sectional championships on Feb. 10 at Saint Xavier High School in Cincinnati. Fourteen individual Talawanda swimmers qualified for the district swim meet this Saturday, where chances to participate in the state championship will be on the line.
