Nicky Jewell received the Oxford Kiwanis Scholarship & Citizenship Award for her efforts last term. 

The award is given each term to recognize those who have overcome challenges. Although academically gifted, Jewell has coped with family struggles and an “overwhelming” employment schedule, according to a press release from the Kiwanis. Working with Talawanda High School counselors, she arranged a schedule that included taking some classes in the classroom and some online, while also getting credit for select work experiences. 

This “has resulted in impressive academic excellence,” according to the Kiwanis press release. “Nicky looks forward to a promising future.”
