Miami University has created a new micro-credential course to teach about diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). The online, self-paced course is available for free to alumni, faculty and staff, to educate individuals on how to support DEI in their workplace and communities.

According to the Miami University News page, the new DEI course “provides learners with applicable knowledge, research-based case studies, and clear strategies to meet the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century and beyond.”

The course will be taught through 10 in depth, 45 minute modules which include information from Miami Faculty, and staff experts. Participants can expect to learn about issues including, but not limited to bias, racism, LGBTQ+ identities, workplace inclusion, ageism, allyship and advocacy.

According to Miami’s micro-credential website, these courses are designed to create opportunities for people “anyone with an emerging educational (or skills) need – they can focus on broad, unmet needs in businesses, or they can be more focused on an individual’s need for a particular skill.”

The course will take approximately 11 weeks to complete and 2-3 hours weekly. Registration for the Spring 2022 session of the course is required by March 14. The university expects to open the micro-credential to a wider audience later in the year; an interest form is available to fill out to be notified of when enrollment opens.
