The Oxford City Council this week approved the first contract with the recently formed firefighters’ union, which outlines pay increases from 2021 through 2023.

The finalized agreement includes a 3% salary hike to $71,796 for firefighters and paramedics in 2021, with a 4% raise for 2022 and an increase of 3.5% for 2023.  The increase for last year will be paid retroactively.

“We reviewed [the agreement] tonight in executive session, and staff and I are recommending that city council approve the proposed agreement,” Oxford City Manager Doug Elliott said at the Feb. 1 City Council meeting.

The contract also includes guidelines for mandatory vacation time, as well as extended leave.

The City of Oxford Professional Firefighters IAFF 5272 bargaining unit formed in June 2020.
