Due to COVID-19, the Kiwanis Club of Oxford cannot host its annual food drive, where the group provides holiday meals for the Talawanda Oxford Pantry and Social Services (TOPSS), who then deliver holiday food baskets to its clients.
Instead of gathering to collect the food and prepare the baskets, which would risk transmitting the virus, the Kiwanis plan to provide TOPPS with gift cards to distribute this year.
In a press release, the club said its goal is to raise $10,000 for the project between Oct. 1 and Nov. 1, and to provide cards in multiples of $20, to be distributed through TOPSS according to family size. TOPSS estimates it costs approximately $27 to provide a holiday meal for a family of four.
Donations can be sent either by selecting the donation button on www.topss.org or can be sent through the mail to: TOPSS, 5445 College Corner Pike Oxford, OH 45056 with “holiday food drive” in the memo line.
