Letter from the editor: We’re taking a short break, happy holidays!

This will be the last issue of the Oxford Observer for the fall semester. We will return Feb. 6, 2025, with 14 new reporters for the spring semester. 

We hope you have enjoyed the stories from our staff of reporters this fall:

Maria Almeida will graduate this semester with a degree in journalism and public health.  She covered public safety for the OO.

Gabrielle Byrd, a journalism and social justice studies senior, whose beat was Talawanda Schools this semester.

Azul Cook, a journalism and sociology senior, covered social services for the OO.

Molly Keyser is a journalism senior with a minor in creative writing. She covered religion for us this semester.

Kaitlin McDowell, a journalism and strategic communication junior, whose beat was recreation this semester.

Olivia Patel, a journalism and political science junior, is also the managing editor of The Miami Student. She covered the Oxford City beat this semester.

Gina Roth, a journalism and individual studies senior, covered the election as her beat for the OO this semester.

Vittorio Salotto, a senior in journalism and media and communications, covered Miami University as his beat this semester.

Hannah Sander, a journalism and English literature double major who is a junior, covered the environment beat.

Lily Schlobohm, a senior in journalism and Italian studies, covered Talawanda and Miami sports for the OO this semester.

Diego Smith, a senior majoring in journalism and history, covered the library as his beat.

Chloe Southard, a senior double majoring in journalism and English Literature, covered arts this semester. She is a

Maya Svec, a senior in journalism and film studies who is also the editor of The Miami Student Magazine, covered uptown and restaurants as her beat for the OO this semester.

The students gained great experience covering stories and getting stories published this semester. We appreciate all the people for giving them interviews or allowing them to take their pictures for the Oxford Observer. 

We wish all our readers a happy holiday season and look forward to a wonderful 2025.

Sacha DeVroomen Bellman, Editor
Bellman is the new editor for the Oxford Observer. She has taught journalism for 22 years at Miami University and has previously been the design/web editor for the OO. Bellman worked as a journalist in the Greater Cincinnati area, including a stint as editor at Community Press newspapers where she edited two weekly newspapers. She also worked as a reporter, copy editor and designer before coming to Miami in 2002. She has a master's degree in scientific and technical communication from Miami  and is the mom of two Miami graduates.
